Silicone Paints & Pigments

Silicone Paints & Pigments

Silicone paints are applied on a silicone piece after this has been created. There are special silicone paints in a variety of colors. You can also create your own paint with a silicone paint base combined with the silicone pigments of your choice.

Silicone paint

Silicone paints are pigments that are dispersed in a special silicone medium and that can be applied with brush or airbrush on a silicone object. For a good and convincing result they are often applied in layers (layering technique). It is advisable to pre-pigment the receiving piece with a base tone (before casting) as to enhance the effect of the applied layers of paint. Often additional effects are achieved by adding fibres (Form-Flock) and fillers.

User Tip

Platinum Silicone paints have a natural glossy finish, so if you need to matt down the surface, WS Matting Powder is the way to go. FuseFX WS-Series Matting Powder is a unique blend of water base matting agents designed to eliminate the shine off of silicone painted surfaces, giving it a flat matt finish with little to no sheen. When used with M/F-110 Clear, the WS Matting Powder creates a little to no sheen surface. WS Matting Powder residue washes off clean with a little soap and warm water, dries clean and does not leave a "blue" tint to the surface unlike Cabosil.
Contains NO Amorphous Silca or Cabosil.

Psycho Paint

Psycho Paint® is a versatile and easy to use platinum silicone paint base developed to help special effects and prosthetic artisans, doll makers, etc. easily create painted-on color effects for their platinum silicone creations. It is a two component translucent clear platinum-cure silicone that is used to make a base for color pigmenting. Once the desired color is attained, Psycho Paint® is thinned with a solvent. Thin layers of paint can be then be applied to a model’s surface (made of Dragon Skin®, Ecoflex® or other platinum silicone) using an airbrush. It can also be applied by brushing. Colored Psycho Paint® will bond to the model’s surface and offers good abrasion resistance. It is very strong and will stretch and bend with the model without cracking or peeling. Silpig Pigments

Silc Pig® Silicone Pigments

are used for coloring tin-cure silicone rubber compounds such as Mold Max® translucent ‘T’ Series products and platinum-cure silicones such as Dragon Skin® and Ecoflex® rubbers. Silc Pig® also works well with Smooth-On’s skin effects systems such as Psycho Paint® and Skin Tite®.

Custom colors are possible by blending different Silc Pig® colors. Attaining just the right color for your application may require trial and error testing. Small scale testing is recommended before using substantial amounts of material for any project.

Silc Pig® pigments are very concentrated, so a little goes a long way when coloring Smooth-On silicone products. Recommended loading range is .001% to 3% of total silicone system weight.

DIRECTIONS:

Pre-mix Silc Pig
® pigment in container before dispensing as settling may have occurred.

Add Silc Pig
® colorant to the Part A side of the silicone rubber system and mix well before adding Part B. Do not overload silicone rubber with Silc Pig® or cure inhibition may occur.

Fuse FX S-Series

S-Series skin bases and SFX skin bases

These FISC Silicone Pigments (AKA Functional Intrinsic Skin Colors) are the fundamental basics of all human skin tones. Adding a few drops of these pigments to your clear Platinum silicone will give you an accurate foundation to mimic human flesh. Mixing ratio is 2 to 3 drops per 10 grams of catalyzed silicone, (2 drops of pigments for softer silicones or silicone with additives).

S-Series SFX pigments (AKA Functional Intrinsic Skin Colors) These are SFX base colors are great! What can I do with these colors? The names says it all...

These pigments go a long way. One 30 grams bottle can tint over 3,300 grams of catalyzed silicone (or approx. 7.2 pounds or 116.4 oz). While the 500 grams bottle can tint over 100,000 grams or 100 kilos (approx. 27 gallons or 220 pounds) or more depending on the softness of the silicone. Now THAT'S a lot of silicone!!!

Here's a link to S-Series pigment ratio to silicones: WS Matting Powder is the way to go.

Flock

Flock can be helpful in coloring translucent resins or rubbers to give more depth of color.

Ignite pigments

The Ignite® line of liquid fluorescent colorants is compatible with Smooth-On urethane rubbers, urethane plastics, urethane foams (rigid and flexible) and silicones. The fluorescent or "glow" effect is maximized under ultra-violet light or "black light." The most dramatic color effect is realized when an Ignite colorant is used with a clear or translucent urethane rubber (such as Clear Flex 50) or plastic (such as Smooth-Cast 325).

The NEW Ignite® 9 pack gives you the opportunity to experience each color without spending a lot of money.

What Makes Castings Made With Ignite® Pigments Appear To Glow? When you add Ignite fluorescent color to a urethane material, more ultraviolet light from the cured material is visible to your eye vs. castings made with SO Strong® colorants. The casting appears brighter in ambient light and appears to glow under ultraviolet light.

Silicone Art Materials pigments

Tom McLaughlin's excellent silicone pigments and accesories to pigment and paint any silicone surfaces - both tin and platinum. Vivid, silicone-safe pigments. No sulfur, no cadmium. Just about any color shade can be mixed with these pigments. All pigments are in the 'top rung' of permanence as far as 'synthetic' colors are concerned.

Mixing Info:

Glow Worm pigments

Glow Worm® phosphorescent powders can be added to Smooth-On liquid plastics, rubbers and foams to create castings that glow in the dark after being charged with light. Choose from either green or blue.
What sets Glow Worm® powders apart from other glow-in-the-dark powders? Used as directed and after being light charged as recommended, castings made with Glow Worm® powders will glow in the dark at least 10 times longer than other glow powders.
Glow-in-the-dark castings are used for Halloween theming displays, home hobby projects, aquariums, store displays and more. These materials are also used for industrial marking, municipal safety applications and more.
